College Girl

Last night we saw our first long-lost family member! Back in 2003, our entire extended family was living in Arizona. Sarah and her cousins Brittany and DJ were even attending the same junior high school. Then that summer Darryl and Tamera packed up their family and moved to Missouri. We've missed them horribly ever since.

After we returned from Silver Dollar City last night, Darryl's oldest daughter, my niece Brittany, drove down from her apartment near Springfield to come visit with us. We were so excited to see her and get all caught up! The last time we saw their family was when they came to Arizona for Christmas 2005. That's just too long!
Brittany was just 16 back then. Now she's a beautiful, poised young lady of 20 (she's five months older than Sarah) who is living on her own and attending college.

Brittany is moving to Fayetteville, Arkansas, next month to attend the University of Arkansas as a junior. She's majoring in anthropology with an emphasis on medical studies, with plans to possibly become a doctor someday. She describes herself as "fickle," always changing her mind about her plans. I think that's great. Youth is the perfect time to explore all your interests and decide where to best invest yourself. Go Brittany!

We had a great visit, and then we sadly said good-bye at 12:30 am when Brittany headed home. She had a chemistry paper due this morning.
No, this isn't a picture of Cousin Itt of the Addams Family. Before we went to bed, I had Sarah unwind all my hair from that halo, and this was the end result. What a mess! I loved the hairstyle for 3 days, but it sure felt good to be able to scratch my head at bedtime!

Now it's coming back to me why you made this trip so far away. Hopefully you will get to see Darryl and his wife too, and we'll get to see pictures of them.
btw Mary, I see your mom in you with your hair up like that.
