This is how Sarah's hair looked in 1995, when she was 5 years old. It had just a bit of natural curl at the ends, but was mostly straight.Mark has naturally curly hair, and so do both of my parents, so I figured our kids would be curly-tops. But it seemed Sarah inherited my texture of hair instead.

Until high school, that is. Suddenly it began to wave...then to ripple...then to curl...then to kink...right up to her roots. Judging by her hair, you wouldn't even think this little girl and my daughter Sarah are the same person!

Sarah's ultra-thick, ultra-curly hair has become the bane of her existence. She can't find a way to style it that she likes.Blow drying makes it fuller. Brushing makes it fluffy like cotton candy. Even straighteners have little effect unless done by a professional with a heavy-duty straightener.

Karla and I have both told her she'll appreciate those curls when she's older. Karla disliked her own naturally curly hair when she was young, but now she loves it.
So far Sarah isn't buying it.

She decided to get a haircut a few days ago in the hope that she'd find a solution. She told the stylist she wanted something that would work with her curls, something cute and easy to care for.She was full of hope as she got into the hairdresser's chair.

She loved having her hair shampooed. I told her we'd have been great as rich ladies, having people wait on us all the time.

I peeked in every now and again to check on her progress. I couldn't wait to see what the stylist came up with.She trimmed and thinned Sarah's hair, and she slicked it up with gel to make little ringlets.

I thought it was cute, but Sarah wasn't sure she liked it. She definitely doesn't want to have to gel up her hair every day.
As soon as we returned home, she brushed it out and **poof** it was cotton candy again!*
The next day Sarah picked it, blow dried it, and straightened it. She still had a head full of very thick curls.

We know the solution is out there, somewhere. She'll just keep searching until she finds it!

I sure wish I had Sarah's hair. It's gorgeous! Does she have any idea what some women do to get their hair looking like hers??...or at least attempt to?
I have a very nice professional hair straighter. My sister got it for me one year for Christmas. It will straighten any hair type to! Anytime she wants to use it let me know.
The same thing happened to me, I got curly hair in Jr. High. I found out later this can be caused by puberty boy, was I unhappy about it! Tell her I said, "Good Luck." When she finds a secret let me know my sister and I will be happy to hear it!
We have found that picking our curls while wet or running fingers through it, makes it look better than brushing also apply conditioner to it while wet after towel drying. Curly hair dries out more than straight hair so it needs lots of conditioning.
I HATED my hair when I was her age, imagine when it started to go silver around 21! at 34 I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything.
IT'S JUST ALWAYS SOMETHING, ISN'T IT???! THIGHS, HAIR, ZITS, WRINKLES...BUT ENOUGH ABOUT ME! I THINK THE HAIRCUT IS VERY CUTE ON HER!
